389TH AIRCRAFT
To the uninitiated, this may seem an easy question for a bomb group historian to answer: "What did the bomber look like that my grandfather flew in WWII?" Well, it was once a nearly impossible question before the historians on the "B-24 Best Web Team" began building a comprehensive database of B-24 serial numbers, nose art, and bomb group assignments. Official aircraft records from WWII were, for the most part, destroyed after the war, making it very difficult to reconstruct their histories. The "B-24 Best Web Team" are experts at analyzing photos, combat diaries, random documents and minutiae, and distilling it all into a user-friendly Internet database. "B-24 Best Web" historians like Chris Gregg and Tom Brittan match up aircraft serial numbers to bomb groups and nose art like forensic scientists. Because of their professionalism and dedication, the 389th and other B-24 bomb groups have access to a piece of their histories that would have been lost forever. Visit "B-24 Best Web" to learn more, and please give them your support: http://www.b24bestweb.com. Many thanks to Chris Gregg for sharing the 389th's model/serial number/nose art/call sign details which he has spent many years researching and presenting on his website devoted to the 389th.
